Lymphatic massage

Lymphatic drainage is a manualstimulation of the lymph flow by rhythmic circular massage. It reduces oedema, stimulates metabolism and facilitates waste products removal from the tissues.

Indications for lymphatic drainage include i.a.

  • lymphatic oedema of upper and lower limbs
  • lower limb ischemia
  • degenerative joint disease
  • obesity
  • trophic skin changes

Contraindications:

  • tumors
  • acute bacterial infection in the swollen limb (the risk of bacteria spreading).
  • severe limb thrombosis
  • heartfailure
  • activetuberculosis

In lymphatic oedema treatment the drainage can be complemented with compression therapy.
