Lymphatic massage
Lymphatic drainage is a manualstimulation of the lymph flow by rhythmic circular massage. It reduces oedema, stimulates metabolism and facilitates waste products removal from the tissues.
Indications for lymphatic drainage include i.a.
- lymphatic oedema of upper and lower limbs
- lower limb ischemia
- degenerative joint disease
- obesity
- trophic skin changes
Contraindications:
- tumors
- acute bacterial infection in the swollen limb (the risk of bacteria spreading).
- severe limb thrombosis
- heartfailure
- activetuberculosis
In lymphatic oedema treatment the drainage can be complemented with compression therapy.
